Please note: This email is being sent to all Foothill-De Anza District Employees.
Dear Foothill-De Anza Community,
The District has received reports from other colleges that their Canvas users have
been receiving an email scam message from "Shiny Hunters," the group that hacked Canvas.
The email asserts the hackers have been monitoring user’s activity on web browsers
and have obtained compromising information, and they are attempting to extort students.
This is a scam. Do not pay! If you receive such a message, you should delete it immediately. Do
not click on any links, open any attachments, or download any files as this could
lead to further ransom attacks.
You can find updates about this nation-wide cyber-attack on our District Cybersecurity Incident page at https://ets.fhda.edu/incidents/ and you'll also be able to see tips on how to recognize phishing emails.
For faculty and staff teaching hybrid or fully online courses, both college’s Online
Learning Teams will host two open forums to support you, answer questions, and navigate
online instruction without Canvas.
The Zoom forums will take place TOMORROW, May 8, 2026.
To attend at 9 AM - Zoom Link
To attend 1 PM - Zoom Link
For those unable to attend, Zooms will be recorded and available on the District website here.
Information is also available on the ETS website here.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility during this disruption.
Sincerely,
Ellen Kamei, MPA (She/Her)
