Kevin McElroy Joins District as Vice Chancellor of Business

Kevin J. McElroy has joined the Foothill-De Anza Community College as vice chancellor of business services.

McElroy brings 21 years of experience as vice president for administrative services at Coastline Community College in Fountain Valley, CA., part of the large multi-college Coast Community College District.

"I am thrilled to be part of the Foothill-De Anza district, which has a longstanding reputation as an innovative and well-managed organization," McElroy said. "This district has been a leader in strategic management within the California community college system, and I plan to work hard as part of the district's senior management team to continue that kind of leadership."

Chancellor Linda Thor called McElroy "open, transparent, ethical and trustworthy,'' qualities that are particularly important in the district's chief business officer.

"Kevin's colleagues describe him as a consensus builder who is committed to shared governance,'' Thor said. "They cite his extensive experience and knowledge of budget and finance, real estate transactions, facilities planning and construction management and say that he is an effective advocate with the community and at the state and national level. I am very excited to have Kevin join the senior leadership of the district."

As vice chancellor of business services, McElroy is responsible for overseeing all business policies and procedures for Foothill-De Anza, providing leadership in strategic planning and advising the chancellor and board on fiscal matters. He began work on Aug. 16.

As vice president for administration at Coastline, McElroy's responsibilities included supervising non-instructional support services, serving as chief financial officer, managing real estate and facilities transactions, and developing community partnerships. He also served as the college's acting president during the search for a new president in 2009-10. Before taking the vice president's job at Coastline, he worked for several years as supervisor of fiscal affairs at Golden West College, also in the Coast district.

McElroy holds a master's degree in public policy administration from California State University, Long Beach, and a bachelor's degree in public administration from San Diego State University. He attended community college at Orange Coast College before transferring to San Diego State.
