MOSS ANNOUNCES SHE WILL NOT RUN FOR REELECTION
TO BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Community Leader Served 12 Years on Governing Board
LOS ALTOS HILLS – Longtime Foothill-De Anza Community College District trustee Judy Moss has announced she will not run for reelection in November.
“My heart is willing, my head is willing, but my feet are not,” she said. “However, I’m confident that several candidates who share my dedication to community colleges will choose to run for the seat.” Moss noted that she will not be a lame duck for the next several months; rather, she will continue to be an active member of the board.
Moss has extensive experience in community colleges and local government. She worked for the San Francisco Community College District for more than 20 years, serving under five chancellors, including a stint as acting vice chancellor. She was elected to the Foothill-De Anza board in 1991. Moss was the first woman on the Mountain View City Council, on which she served for eight years, and the first to serve as mayor of the city.
Moss’ philosophy is that the crucial charge of the community college system is to give people confidence to take the first step. “You have to know you’re somebody to succeed in college,” she said. Moss believes it is vital to encourage analytical skills in every subject, and to study student outcomes to determine whether they get second and third jobs—not just whether they are offered a first job after graduation.
“Ensuring that Foothill and De Anza continue to serve students and our communities well has always been my goal as a board member,” said Moss. The district serves 45,000 students annually.
