April 1, 2009 – President Barack Obama announced today that he intends to nominate Martha J. Kanter, chancellor of the Foothill-
De Anza Community College District, as under secretary of education. The under secretary is the U.S. Department of Education’s top higher education official and oversees all policies, programs and activities related to postsecondary education, vocational and adult education and federal student aid.
