Trustees of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District have elected Betsy Bechtel as president of the Board of Trustees and Hal Plotkin as vice president. The board selected its new officers on March 2 to terms that continue until the first Monday in December, 2009.
This is Bechtel’s second term as president. A resident of Palo Alto for more than 40 years, she was elected to the district’s board in 2003 and last served as president in 2006. Her record of public service includes nine years on the Palo Alto City Council.
Bechtel has worked as a vice president for Citibank and J.P. Morgan and currently serves on Borel Bank’s board of directors. She is a member of Foothill-De Anza’s Audit and Finance Committee.
Bechtel takes over from Laura Casas Frier, who stepped down from the presidency for family reasons and will continue serving as a trustee.
Plotkin was elected to the board in 2003. He is an author, journalist, and founder and CEO of the Center for Media Change, Inc., a non-profit organization whose innovative projects include www.reelchanges.org and www.spot us. Plotkin chairs the district’s Audit and Finance Committee and is the first Foothill College graduate to be elected to the Board of Trustees.
