The Foothill-De Anza Community College District Board of Trustees is seeking applicants for three seats on its Measure C Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee.
Committee members must live within the district’s service area, which encompasses the cities of Cupertino, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View and Palo Alto; most of Sunnyvale; and parts of San Jose, Santa Clara and Saratoga. (A map of the district’s service area can be found at the bottom of the page at: http://www.fhda.edu/about_us/.)
Having a citizens’ oversight committee is required by California’s Proposition 39, which established requirements for voter approval of school bond measures that receive less than two-thirds of the vote. Foothill-De Anza’s Measure C, a $490.8 million general obligation bond measure, was approved by 65.69 percent of the voters on June 6, 2006.
Each member of the oversight committee is appointed to represent a particular constituency. The current vacancies are for board members in the following categories:
• At-large representative
• Senior citizens’ organization representative
• Student representative from Foothill College or De Anza College
The seven-member committee is charged with reviewing Measure C bond expenditures, reporting to the public and presenting an annual report to the district’s Board of Trustees. Members are not compensated and the committee meets no more frequently than quarterly. Terms are for two years.
Additional information about the committee, including its bylaws, can be found at: http://www.measurec.fhda.edu.
Terms on the committee are staggered, so some seats become vacant every year. Current board members whose terms expire at the end of 2008 are Carol Johnson, at-large representative; Jim Sandstrom, senior citizens’ organization representative; and Sarah Wiehe, student representative. Under the committee’s bylaws, all are eligible to reapply and be appointed to serve a second term.
Applicants should submit a resume and cover letter detailing their qualifications and which of the three categories they would represent. The material may be submitted by mail to the Office of the Chancellor, Foothill-De Anza Community College District, 12345 El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills, CA 94022; by email to chancellor@fhda.edu; or by fax to (650) 941-6289.
The application deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7. Applicants may not be an employee, contractor, consultant or vendor of the district.
The Board of Trustees will make the appointments to the Measure C Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee on Dec. 1, 2008, at a regularly scheduled meeting.
