The Foothill-De Anza Community College District, the town of Los Altos Hills and Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network, Inc., on Feb. 9 hosted “Keeping Health Benefits Affordable,” a Silicon Valley forum addressing how public agencies can offer attractive, affordable benefits for employees in the face of skyrocketing costs. The event, attended by a representatives from a range of cities, agencies, school districts, community colleges and labor organizations, explored collaborative solutions through innovative and best practices.
Speakers were Peter Boland, president of Boland Healthcare, Inc.; Curtis Howard, chief, Employer & Member Health Services Division, CalPERS; and Sally Covington, director, California Works Foundation. Serving as panelists were James T. Beall, supervisor, Santa Clara County; Sarah Muller, senior research associate, Working Partnerships USA; Amy Chan, city manager, Sunnyvale; and Craig A.T. Jones, managing partner, Ticonderoga Capital. Foothill-De Anza Trustee Hal Plotkin and Los Altos Hills Councilmember Breene Kerr served as moderators during question and answer sessions with the audience.
"We were pleased to offer this opportunity to learn what can be done to address escalating health care costs," said Foothill-De Anza Chancellor Martha J. Kanter. "Our outstanding speakers and panelists offered unique perspectives on this urgent and complex issue."
