Santa Clara County is among the 29 counties that PG&E has alerted to a possible "public safety power shutoff" on Wednesday, Oct. 9, and possibly beyond due to high winds and fire safety concerns. Foothill and De Anza colleges may be affected.

If PG&E power shutdowns occur that directly affect the colleges or are likely to affect a large number of our students and staff, the colleges and district offices will close.

As soon as we know the scope of any outages, but not later than 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, the district will send a notification by text and email through the Foothill-De Anza Police Department automated alert system to advise whether the colleges will be open or closed. If the colleges are closed, the district offices also will be closed. The district will monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.

In the event of a closure, designated emergency personnel are expected to report as instructed. Employees who work at off-site locations, such as in high school dual enrollment programs or apprenticeship programs, should check with their work site for possible closure information.

Information and updates will be available through the district and college websites, social media and the automated alert system.

The automated notification system will be used on subsequent days if PG&E is planning power shutoffs.

To update your phone numbers for the Foothill-De Anza automated emergency alert system, please go to and on the left-hand navigation panel click on "My Profile" and then "Setup Campus Crisis Contact Info."
