Bridget Howe, a Foothill College student who served as the college's student trustee for 2005-06, has been appointed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to the 17-member California Community Colleges Board of Governors (BOG).
"We at Foothill-De Anza are proud that Bridget has been named to this important role," said Chancellor Martha J. Kanter. "She was a strong, effective advocate for students during her term as Foothill student trustee." Kanter noted Howe fully understands the mission of community colleges, and that as one who plans to become a nurse, is also familiar with the significant role of community colleges in educating California's workforce and the importance of vocational and career technical programs.
Howe, who maintains a 3.7 grade point average, is a member of the award-winning Foothill College Speech and Debate Team. She has received numerous awards, including the Foothill Leadership and Community Service Certificate, the World Affairs Council Scholarship and the Multicultural Awareness Leadership Award. In 2005, she was named by faculty as one of three outstanding students to receive the annual Excellence Award of the Foothill College Business and Social Sciences Division.
An active volunteer, Howe has served as the Associated Students of Foothill College (ASFC) activities coordinator, president of the college’s Academy of California Social Issues and chair of the Women’s History Month Committee. She also has played a regional role on the Region IV Policy Board as alternate representative for the California Student Association of Community Colleges (CalSACC). She works as a biogeochemistry research assistant at the NASA Ames Research Center.
